Client Story: From Fear to Freedom – Rewriting the Road Ahead

When Jack was referred to my services by his employer, he was at a crossroads, personally and professionally. Despite being talented, capable, and well-liked at work, a long-standing phobia of driving was quietly limiting his life. He avoided unfamiliar routes, refused freelance work, and was hesitant to apply for full-time roles, all because driving filled him with dread.

His employer saw potential and they offered him coaching, and together, we embarked on a two-part journey using the NLP toolkit, hypnotherapy, and a client-led change process.

“I came to Bryony back in 2023, referred by my employer, for help with a driving phobia, but our work uncovered so much more. The anxiety I was feeling had deeper roots, and through a blend of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), hypnotherapy, and coaching, Bryony helped me work through it all with compassion and clarity”.

Part One: Rewiring a Driving Phobia

Our work began before we even met. As with all my clients, Tom received pre-tasking to start shifting his mindset and activating his internal resources. Coaching doesn’t begin or end in my presence, change starts and finishes with the client. My role is the conductor and facilitator, guiding them through the process.

When Jack arrived for his full-day coaching session, he had already started laying the groundwork. We spent the morning digging deep into the roots of his fear using a range of NLP techniques. We uncovered the limiting beliefs and unconscious programming that had kept him stuck.

After lunch, we transitioned into deep relaxation and hypnotherapy. I carefully designed positive, future-oriented suggestions to reinforce the shifts he had already begun making. Jack left the session calm, empowered, and focused, not just on driving, but on the bigger life that now felt within reach.

“I left our sessions feeling empowered and equipped for real change. Since then, I’ve grown stronger in both my personal and professional life. Bryony is truly a superstar! I can’t thank her enough”.

And the result?

Jack didn’t just drive to a local shop or test out a quiet road. His goal was to drive his friends from Cardiff to Oakwood Theme Park, and he did it. Then came more updates! Driving himself to acting jobs, auditions, even taking on a trip to Manchester. He was finally free to go wherever life took him.

Part Two: Taking the Wheel in His Career

A few months later, Jack returned. His role was at risk due to funding cuts, and he wanted a little bit of support to navigate the next step in his career. With the confidence gained from conquering his driving phobia, Jack approached this challenge differently. He did the leg work, and I helped him clarify his strengths, and sharpening his application for a national communications role.

And the result?

He got the job! Jumping from a zero-hour contract to a full-time, well-paid position (not only that, he’s since bought his first home and is thriving in every sense of the word).

This story is a powerful reminder that coaching isn’t just about tackling one issue, it’s about unlocking the ripple effect of transformation. When we rewrite the stories, we’ve been telling ourselves, entire worlds open.

Jack found his freedom. Where will your journey take you?
